on Tuesday, February 16, for a Special Presentation

Our guest speakers Katie Keck, NHS Wellness Counselor, and Melissa DiScala, IUSD Mental Health and Crisis Intervention Coordinator, will discuss the mental health services available at NHS and at the District. A short video prepared by NHS Psychology students will be shown, showcasing students' ideas about how to better support students' stress at the school. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in room 906 at NHS.  See agenda for details.

Are You Considering a Career in the Pharmaceutical Industry? 

Dr. Lawrence Brown from Chapman University School of Pharmacy will be visiting on Wednesday, February 17 during Lunch, 11:55 AM - 12:30 PM, in the College & Career Center, room 1035. Dr. Lawrence “LB” Brown is Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and Professor of Pharmacoeconomics and Health Policy at Chapman University School of Pharmacy. Master Drive Seminar on Teen Driving and Safety
Parents and students: If you missed last October's Master Drive seminar, here's your chance to attend their presentation at Irvine High School on Wednesday, February 17, at 6:30 PM in the theater. Hear shocking statistics about the risks to teen drivers. Find out what a teen driver needs to learn (limitations of the road conditions, dynamics of a vehicle in motion, etc.) to become a safe driver. For more information, see attached flyer.

Lowering Anxiety in School, Standardized Testing 
and the College Admissions Process
Nick Standlea, President of Test Prep Gurus, will speak to families about how growth mindset, learned optimism, mindfulness, selective attention, and grit can reduce the pressure put on students, increase their enjoyment of school, and help them in the college admissions process. Announcing the Reflections Winners 
We are pleased to announce our amazingly talented Timberwolves whose art was recognized by the Irvine School District this year as part of the Reflections Program 2015. The following students were recognized as in the Top 3 for all entries in their category throughout our Irvine Unified Council:

In Literature, Erica Kam (11th grade) was awarded the 3rd place honor; in Music Composition, Mary-Ann Chen (10th grade) was awarded the 2nd place honor; in Film Production, Pierre Schantz (9th grade) was awarded the 2nd place honor; in Photography, Meghana Bairavarsu (9th grade) was awarded the 3rd place honor.

In addition, two Northwood students were awarded 1st place and advanced to the 4th District level: Koby Park (11th grade) in Film Production and Justin Lai (11th grade) in Visual Arts.

Congratulations to all who participated! A special thanks to Lisa Hopper, our Reflections Chair, for coordinating this PTA event! Next year's theme is: "What is Your Story?"
