Congratulations to Spirit of Community Awards Winners from Northwood - Diane Aviles and Lisa Hibbard 
Congratulations to Diane Aviles and Lisa Hibbard for receiving "Spirit of Community" awards from the Irvine Public School Foundation (IPSF). The Spirit of Community award recognizes four outstanding individuals who have given so much to IPSF and our school community. They received their awards at Friday's IPSF/Irvine Council PTA joint luncheon. Thank you both for your commitment to Northwood High School and our students.

Final Days to Buy Grad Night Tickets!
Senior Families: June 12 is the last day to buy Grad Night tickets at NHS. Tickets are $160 each, payable by check to NHS PTSA or exact cash. All purchases after this date will be at the door only.
Ticket form link: GN 2015 Ticket Purchase Agreement pdf. All student and parent signatures, and allergy notes, must be completed on the form. If no allergies, write NONE.

Price includes all-night fun with food, music, activities, entertainment and transportation, all supervised by event staff and PTSA parents. Almost every Senior is attending, so don't miss out on the most exclusive party of the year! There is plenty of time to celebrate with family and friends after the Graduation ceremony. Grad Night begins on Wednesday, June 17 at 10:00pm in the NHS Gym, student ID required to enter. Students are then transported via bus to a secret party venue, and will return to NHS via bus by 6:00am on Thursday, June 18.

Lei Sales for Graduation

Speaker on Managing Teen Stress
The Irvine Prevention Coalition’s May meeting will have a special presentation on “Enhancing Teen Stress Management” by renowned author Ross Szabo.  Mr. Szabo will share positive steps to help teens manage stress at this meeting at the Irvine City Hall on Thursday, May 21 at 3:00 pm.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.


Senior Parents - Grad Night Volunteers Needed 
Volunteers are still needed at the party venue (the best volunteer job of the year, and the kids don't even notice you are there because they are so busy having fun!). Volunteer shifts begin Wednesday night June 17th and go till Thursday morning June 18th (from 10:30 pm-1:30 am and from 1:00 am-4:00 am). You will receive private information the night before the event with secret location and other details. If you would like to volunteer during the Grad Night party, please contact Suzi Okuda at smo37@cox.net.

Northwood Athletic Scholarships Being Offered
The NHS Athletic Boosters annually awards three $500 scholarships to NHS Student Athletes that are graduating seniors, headed to college. Applications are due Friday, May 15th at 2 p.m. in the NHS front office, attention NHS Athletic Boosters. Scholarship earners will be presented at the Distinguished Timberwolves Awards on Monday, May 18th, 2015.

NHS ATHLETIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIPS

Mike Dunn, presenting sponsor of the Timberwolf 5K, is proud to sponsor two $500 scholarships (1 female/1 male) for senior athletes who will be attending college in the fall. The scholarships are designed to reward NHS athletes that have exhibited outstanding community/volunteer service. Qualified applicants must be a current member of the NHS Athletic Boosters, must have competed for Northwood High School athletics and participated in significant community/volunteer service. The emphasis will be on the community/volunteer service. Please write an essay explaining the sports, levels and years participated at NHS and the details of your community / volunteer service. Reference letters from adults that were associated with the community / volunteer service are recommended. RICK AND SHARON CROWELL COMMEMORATIVE SCHOLARSHIP
In commemoration of the late Rick and Sharon Crowell, the NHS Athletic Boosters Club is proud to sponsor a $500 annual scholarship for an NHS senior who will be attending college in the fall, has participated on an NHS athletic team, and has experience or a strong interest in web design and technology. The scholarship is also designed to reward NHS athletes that have exhibited outstanding community / volunteer service. Qualified applicants must be a current member of the NHS Athletic Boosters, must have competed for Northwood High School athletics and have a clear interest in web design and technology. The applicant must also have a record of community / volunteer service. Please write an essay explaining the sports, levels and years participated at NHS and the details of your experience and / or interest in web design and technology, as well as your community / volunteer service. Reference letters from adults that were associated with the applicant’s experience and / or interest in web design and technology, in addition to community / volunteer service are recommended. Northwood Named 2015 California Gold Ribbon School! 
Northwood High School was recognized as one of the top high schools in the state under the new California Gold Ribbon program. California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson described the winners as "embracing rigorous academic standards, providing excellence and creativity in teaching, and creating a positive school climate." Congratulations Northwood students and faculty!
